The language situation there surprised me as anybody I talked to was able to speak three languages: German, French and Luxembourgish. As a future language teacher, I tried to discover why and how the inhabitants of Luxembourg are able to speak three languages. I realised that Luxembourg’s teaching system is based on an immersion system. Therefore, I visited two school: one in Wallonia, a typical Belgian immersion school and another one in Waasserbëlleg, a typical Luxembourgish (immersion) school. After these two experiences I knew the main differences between the way foreign languages are taught in Belgium (immersion or not) and in Luxembourg.
