Résumé : |
To begin with, this presentation aims to answer the following question:
Is it possible for the English teacher to teach the English grammar with the exclusive use of the target langue?
In order to answer this main question and a series of other questions related to this one, I decided to read different books, examine lecturers’ studies, present the perks of the target language, its use in immersive schools as well as data bases found on the Internet. Those helped me prove the benefits of the exclusive use of the target language in education and how positively it affects students’ learnings.
Then, I backed my theoretical research with my experience during my placements, my teaching of English and its grammar exclusively done in the target language, an online questionnaire dedicated to English teachers and two interviews with my former mentors who have witnessed my immersive-like teaching. This highly helped me see clearer and bring to light some parameters that hardens the teaching of grammar in English even though it is still possible to do so.
Finally, with the help of my research, interviews and surveys I could demonstrate that a teaching of English and its grammar in the target language is possible and that it would even be better for learners that way. However, our education system has its limits and its weaknesses and this incites teachers who believe in such way of teaching to keep on teaching grammar in French. |
